Trae Brooks | (Dis)Honor | This piece is a response to an incident that happened to me where I had been harassed by a white police officer. i was pulled over for “making an illegal lane switch on the highway” which was a complete lie. what started out as an innocuous traffic stop turned into a tense situation where i was being racially profiled by a cop. so many thoughts were racing through my mind: “why am i being pulled over?”, “Why is this cop telling me to get out the car?” “why is he being confrontational?” “Why is he interrogating me?” “What if he pulls out his gun”? “What’s gonna happen? “what if, what if, what if”. This highlights the seemingly NEVER-ENDING realities of police brutality and racial injustice in America. when will it end? when can i ever feel safe? When will black lives matter in America?
