Zulynette | I will not bury my love story | This piece includes an image of a frog – in this case, specifically, a coquí – holding on tightly to a heart. There is, subtly, an original poem in the background of the piece that speaks to my own holding on tightly to my love story – in whatever way it comes. This painting was made as a quiet rebellion to what a love story ought to look like in a heteronormative society, as a gentle revolt against stereotypical/ acceptable/ palatable images of queerness, as a soft uprising against a very Puerto Rican upbringing seeped in Catholicism that claimed queerness is a sin. This painting is an embrace within an embracing.
