COMMUNITY PODCAST LAB

Developed as an opportunity for People of Color to tell stories for and about their communities, Futuro Media is partnering with Free Center and Kamora’s Cultural Corner to bring this project to Hartford. Together, we will capture the untold stories from our own neighborhoods through the diverse voices of our people.

In partnership with Futuro Media and Kamora’s Cultural Corner, Free Center is proud to host Hartford Community Podcast Lab.

The Community Podcast Lab stands apart from other incubators in the depth of tutorials, information and skills acquired, duration of the course, the engagement of dedicated personnel and community organizations, and its competitive attendance-based stipend for participants to ensure our course is accessible to all. People with little to no prior experience in media from the diverse and underrepresented neighborhoods of the Hartford area have the opportunity to tell their stories. Participants will be given the access, skills, and tools necessary for produce/broadcast and to contribute meaningful pieces of history and culture ranging from the perspective of People of Color to the rich narrative of Hartford life.

Direct program recruitment: email, social media promotions, paste-up flyers, informational event

  • Selection criteria determined by committee
  • Review applications, narrowing applicant to a pool of 25
  • Inform all applicants of application status
  • Conduct interviews and evaluations, narrow pool to 15
  • Inform applicants of application status
  • Conduct second round of interviews, narrowing selections to 8 finalists
  • Inform all second round applicants of application status

  • Modify in-person training for online access
  • Distribute equipment to finalists

Our Podcast Cohort
