Andre Rochester | Untitled 2019 Self Portrait | Exploring mediums that smear and smudge, Jazz Sambrina creates holes gaps and voids that tell their own dark and deep stories. Sambrina’s drawing practice is focused on process, touching the medium and using her fingers as tools to create visual movement within the smears of pigment. Inspired heavily by nature and landscapes she reaches for charcoal, oil and soft pastels to capture the abstracted reality created when she daydreams amongst nature. “My Lamp is Trimmed and Burning” depicts one of those daydreams where she is finding comfort from the environment. Nature feels like home, it always leaves the light on for you.
