Zulynette  |  Bloom, baby  |  Based on a drawing I created for a personal challenge I’m participating in called “the 366 challenge” where I’m creating one drawing every day of 2020. At the end of the month, I show the audience all my drawings and they vote on which drawing they want to see transformed into a painting. This drawing one for the month. it is also a challenge to my own internalized ideas of what beauty or a BEAUTIFUL body can look like or ought to look like. I drew and then painted a fat body as a celebration of a fat body. For the longest time my art was replicating the body types that womxn have been FORCE FED as the ideal. During this pandemic many womxn are stressing about their weight because we have attached our worth to how we look. Even in the middle of a global crisis, we’re worried about our diets. I say, eat the doughnuts — and bloom, baby.
