Monica Bisgaard | Arrival | I took this photograph of my son, Nic, after he decided to shave off his dreadlocks. It was a cold, Gray day in DC and he walked past me wearing this blanket. I asked him to step outside just as he was. We live on a very busy street in DC, and as a Black person I was hyper aware of the activity occurring all around us a few days before the insurrection on January 6th. I was aware of oncoming traffic behind both of us as I waited for the traffic light to turn green. This photo symbolizes my son, a Black American man with a multitude of ethnicities, stepping into adulthood as the world waits.
